End of Year Testing/Placements
Held in classes all week, at their regular scheduled time. Don’t be late or miss class.
At the Elite Dance Center, we are a five-level curriculum for all technique classes such as ballet, jazz, tap, leaps & turns, and acrobatics. We have a three to the four-level curriculum for all other styles including contemporary and hip-hop. We use a graded system for all technique classes.
Classes that Don’t Test: Combo/Preschool, Improv, Stretch & Conditioning, Leg & Feet, and Pilates
The students are given mid-year reviews and given a final test in the spring to determine the appropriate level for them for the following year. We also have taken into consideration class attendance, student and parent behavior, and input from the teacher and director.
Placement decisions are derived from many years of teaching experience. Often a child is placed in a particular group or class where he or she will feel confident, in order to promote the development of self-esteem. Some students who are placed in too high of a level for there experience become discouraged, only to lose their passion for dance. Others respond to the challenge of being in a class with students who are more proficient by pushing themselves to work harder. Placement is highly individual and the factors that go into the decision are complex. We stand very firm in our placement decisions and do not allow the parent and student to decide.
You can book a private lesson at any time to be retested. The director, parent, student, and a student from the next level up will be present. If you so choose to set up a reassessment, you need to contact the front desk to do so.
